Functions
Description The purpose of a product and/or each of its sub-components, i.e. the reasons why the product/component exists, as it is, where it is, etc.
Examples Enables Viewing of Defects, Prevents Corrosion, Warns Operator of Malfunction, Stabilises Pressure, Pumps Fuel to Engine.

  • These are normally associated with Phys Entities to describe their purposes and uses
  • Do not confuse Functions and Tasks - Functions are what a thing does; Tasks are what People, Roles and Org Units do
  • Although not in GTO, Functions might also be used with other concepts (such as Software)
